Experience a led walk through the carefully protected nature reserve underneath the Bennerley Viaduct for the first time since last spring. This includes a bonus open Q+A session with the FoBV volunteer crew. Limited to 25 spaces!

How to get here: Follow directions to Newton’s Lane carpark NG16 2SD, we will meet here and finish the walk here.

Practical Details: The session will begin at Newton’s Lane carpark NG16 2SD, the volunteers will lead you down by the Nottingham canal where you will be able to view the iron giant from a picturesque and panoramic landscape shot. You will then head onto the newly developed site and see the progress of our visitor centre being constructed before entering the nature reserve which runs underneath the viaduct. The walk route will see you trek the entire span of the viaduct on a woodchip path through the nature reserve and back again with places to stop and ask our volunteers some questions, before returning to the canal towpath and heading back to the carpark. The carpark is extremely limited and so we recommend travelling to us on foot but if you wish to use the public carpark, arrive early to avoid missing the prompt start. Due to the nature of this specific route, we do not recommend wheelchair users or pushchairs, please book onto a Skywalk Guided Tour catered for better accessibility. This is only a temporary solution to access before we re-open the Nottinghamshire side for everyone to access.

The entire event should take approx 90 mins.
Sturdy shoes are recommended. The walk is moderately challenging, with some uneven pathways as well as an area that can get wet and boggy.
We always welcome dogs but they must be kept on leads at all times!

Access Information:

There are no refreshments, but close by is organic farm Trinity Farm Shop and Cafe, Awsworth, or Ilkeston Station, with toilets and parking.
